NTB15-079a lists 2005–2015 D40 applicability only to say that its previous information is no longer valid and should be discarded. It does not authorize valve, filter or canister replacement.
Use current Nissan TechInfo for the VIN and model year. Presenting the obsolete procedure as active would be less accurate than following the circuit code from first principles.
Rear-frame exposure raises wiring priority
Inspect for water, corrosion, stone impact, stretched wiring and harness contact near the canister. Prior hitch, exhaust, tank or collision work can disturb the connector.
Test valve coil/current, power and driver control under load. A continuity beep may miss voltage drop through corroded strands.
Prove mechanical airflow after electrical repair
Command the valve and confirm the passage changes state; clicking does not prove flow. If P0456/P0455 accompanies P0448, perform a separate pressure or smoke test.
Confirm correct electrical command, airflow and no pending P0448 after the applicable monitor. Do not replace the ECM or canister by elimination.

Frontier diagnostics span D22, D40 and D41 trucks with KA24DE, VG33E, QR25DE, VQ40DE and VQ38DD engines, rear- or four-wheel drive, and manual or conventional automatic transmissions. North American Frontier did not use the Nissan CVT step-motor system associated with P1778. Confirm VIN, engine, transmission, drivetrain and ECM calibration before applying any code definition or bulletin.
