A quiet 2010 truck or any unmatched year/engine returns to normal P0420 diagnosis. The presence of the code alone does not satisfy the bulletin.
Towing history can reveal the upstream cause
Ask whether the lamp flashed, power dropped or fuel economy changed while towing or climbing. High load exposes weak ignition and fuel-control faults that can overheat the converter.
Review permanent and historical codes before clearing. A normal unloaded idle after the trip cannot prove the catalyst was never exposed to raw fuel.
Parts must match the emissions label
