P0300 Code Honda Odyssey: V6 Misfire, Rings and Injector Branches

Diagnose Odyssey P0300 with six-cylinder counters, plugs, injectors and compression, including 2013–2017 ring and 2018–2019 injector program limits.

WHAT P0300 MEANS

P0300 means several cylinders misfired or none consistently dominated. Preserve P0301–P0306, bank imbalance codes and counters. Two different Honda branches matter. Bulletin 26-001, issued February 2026, extends coverage for VIN-eligible 2013–2017 Odyssey P0301–P0304 cases involving oil-fouled plugs and ring wear/sticking; its diagnosis may lead to software, plugs, rings or block inspection. Certain 2018–2019 vans have a separate injector extension involving P0300–P0306, catalyst and bank-variation codes. Neither branch makes rings or injectors the automatic P0300 repair.

SAE/Ford description: Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
DRIVING RISKStop soon

A flashing MIL means catalyst-damaging active misfire. Stop as soon as safe and avoid continued load. Stop also for raw fuel, severe shaking, overheating, low oil pressure or mechanical noise.

P0300 diagnostic path — each candidate cause paired with the test that separates it. The full cause matrix, with the evidence each cause needs, is below.

CAUSE MATRIX

What can set P0300—and how to separate it

The order below is evidence-driven, not a universal probability ranking. Vehicle year, repair history, companion codes and the operating condition in freeze frame change where diagnosis should begin.

The two warranty branches solve different failures

The 2013–2017 bulletin discusses ring wear/sticking and oil-fouled plugs.

The 2018–2019 notice concerns injector manufacturing and related code families.

Plug evidence can determine the next branch

Oil ash, fuel wetness and coolant-cleaned porcelain mean different failures.

Keep every plug labeled by cylinder.

Random still has a pattern

Enhanced counters may reveal one cylinder or bank leading.

Capture the first cold minute before the symptom fades.

BEFORE CLEARING

Save these scan-data clues

Freeze frame is a snapshot of conditions when the PCM matured the fault. It can distinguish an idle-only problem from a load, cold-start or monitor-completion problem. Clearing first throws that context away.

  • P0301–P0306/P219A/B/catalyst codes
  • All six counters
  • Both-bank trims
  • Plug deposits by cylinder
  • Fuel pressure/injector balance
  • VIN/program and prior repair history
TEST SEQUENCE

A practical diagnostic workflow

  1. 01
    Preserve the six-cylinder pattern

Cylinder and bank grouping controls diagnosis.

  2. 02
    Inspect plugs in order

    Do not erase oil/fuel/coolant evidence.

  3. 03
    Make targeted coil tests

Move one suspected coil and watch the counter.

  4. 04
    Test injection and pressure

Compare cylinder contribution and rail command.

  5. 05
Apply only the matched Honda branch

Verify year, VIN, code and inspection gates.

  6. 06
    Test mechanical sealing

    Use compression/leak-down when misfire stays.

  7. 07
    Verify cold and load

Avoid provoking a flashing-MIL road test.

!
Do not load the parts cannon

Do not replace six coils, rings or injectors from P0300. Bulletin 26-001 and the injector extension are different programs with different years and diagnostic requirements.

APPLICATION BOUNDARIES

Why the model year changes the test

Odyssey diagnostics span several J35 V6 generations, port and direct injection, VCM cylinder deactivation, conventional and newer EVAP hardware, plus six cylinder-specific misfire codes and two catalyst banks. Confirm VIN, model year, engine/calibration, emissions label and current Honda warranty/campaign status. Do not transfer four-cylinder Accord, Civic or CR-V VTEC bulletins to this J35-powered minivan.

  • 26-001 lists VIN-eligible 2013–2017 Odyssey P0301–P0304 cases.
  • The February 2026 bulletin states 10 years/150,000 miles; actual VIN status and time still control eligibility.
  • Certain 2018–2019 Odysseys are in the injector extension.
  • P0305/P0306 do not automatically enter the 26-001 ring branch.
COMMON QUESTIONS

P0300 FAQ

Does P0300 mean all coils failed?+

No; it names no component.

Can I drive?+

Not with a flashing lamp or strong shaking.

Does every 2013–2017 Odyssey need rings?+

No; VIN and the bulletin diagnosis control.

Does every 2018–2019 need injectors?+

No; eligibility and diagnostic relation are required.

Should I replace plugs first?+

Inspect and record them before replacement.

Can fuel pressure cause random misfire?+

Yes, especially across both banks.

Why save cylinder counters?+

They reveal useful cylinder/bank structure.

What confirms repair?+

Stable counters through original conditions.
