Before reassembly is accepted, the technician should identify the failed test: oil pressure below specification, control-circuit failure, a waveform relationship error, mechanical timing misalignment, phaser operation or a damaged component. The repair order should name the Bank 1 intake-cam finding rather than list several speculative sensors.

After the repair, confirm the correct oil and filter are installed, connectors and grounds are secure, and no tools or debris remain near the timing drive. Complete every Ford-specified neutral-profile or cam/crank relearn. Graph desired and actual Bank 1 intake angle through the operating range that originally set the code and compare other cams for context.

A quiet idle alone is not enough. Recheck cold start, pending codes and freeze-frame conditions, while avoiding aggressive operation until oil pressure and cam response are stable. If metal debris, low pressure or internal wear was found, follow the shop's shortened oil/filter inspection plan. Preserve the before-and-after scan report because it documents that correlation—not merely the warning lamp—returned to normal.

First decide whether the signal disappeared or moved

Capture cam and crank on the same time base during crank, idle and the fault condition. Missing edges or noise support sensor, connector, air-gap or harness investigation, while a repeatable phase displacement supports mechanical timing.

Resolve P0340, P0335 and shared-voltage codes before treating correlation as a chain verdict. The PCM cannot judge phase correctly when one of the two signals is unreliable.

Pentastar oil control belongs in the test plan

For the 3.6L, verify level, viscosity, filter and oil condition, then compare desired and actual cam angle where scan data supports it. Sludge, restricted control passages or a sticking phaser can delay response without a broken chain.

Do not use thicker oil to hide startup noise. If pressure is questionable or rattle persists, stop unnecessary running and follow the engine-specific phaser, tensioner and mechanical-timing procedure.

Older vans need their own reference pattern

A 3.3L or 3.8L Town & Country does not inherit Pentastar bank, sensor or phaser descriptions. Match the waveform and mechanical timing marks to the VIN-decoded engine before disassembly.

After the measured fault is repaired, perform required relearns and verify synchronization hot and cold. A code that has merely been cleared has not yet passed the correlation monitor.
