WHAT P0456 MEANS

P0456 means the gasoline Jetta EVAP monitor detected a very small sealing loss; it does not prove the fuel cap. Preserve refueling/fuel-level evidence, test purge and vent/leak-detection hardware and use regulated smoke. VW Bulletin 01-25-02 covers a specific 2022–2024 Jetta 1.5T DNKA software/hardware process and instructs technicians to follow its sequence before diagnosis or replacement. Older engines and TDIs do not inherit that repair.

Record the system before disturbing it

Note cap tightness, seal, filler condition, fuel level and whether the lamp followed refueling or tank work. These facts can disappear when parts are removed.

A loose cap is possible, but purge leakage, a vent/leak-detection valve, cracked vapor line, canister or tank seal can set the same code.

Use the DNKA procedure only where it belongs

For a listed 2022–2024 1.5T DNKA, verify VIN/software applicability and follow VW's ordered software and hardware checks before replacing parts.

For every other engine/year, use the matching erWin diagram and test plan. Similar body styling does not imply identical EVAP hardware.

Prove a tiny leak safely

Command valves and confirm mechanical sealing, then apply EVAP-regulated smoke while sectioning the system. Never use unrestricted shop air.

Complete the natural monitor at the required fuel level and soak. A cleared light with incomplete readiness is not a verified repair.

Why the model year changes the test

Jetta diagnostics span several generations and 2.0 MPI, 2.5 inline-five, 1.4T, 1.5T, 1.8T, 2.0T and TDI powertrains. The same DTC can lead to a different test on a CCTA, CBFA, CJAA, CVCA or DNKA engine. Read the underhood engine code and VIN before applying a bulletin, measuring block or component location.

  • The DNKA bulletin is limited to specified 2022–2024 Jetta applications.
