WHAT P0014 MEANS

P0014 means Bank 1 exhaust-cam position stayed more advanced than the ECM expected. It does not identify a failed solenoid. First identify the inline-four or V6 engine and the correct bank, save desired/actual cam angles and companion P0017, then verify oil level, grade, filter and pressure. Load-test the exhaust oil-control-valve circuit and command the cam. Signal dropout, poor hydraulic response and a stable mechanical phase error require different repairs.

Map Sensor B to the correct exhaust cam

Use engine code and the factory component diagram instead of a left/right shortcut. A Lambda V6 and Theta inline-four do not share bank location or connector routing.

Graph commanded and actual exhaust angle at known oil temperature. On V6 applications, compare the other bank under the same rpm and load.

Separate electrical command from oil movement

Load-test supply, control and terminal grip, then observe valve current and cam movement during actuation. A valve that clicks may still stick or meter oil poorly.

Wrong oil, an unsuitable filter, aeration, sludge or weak pressure can slow a healthy phaser. Confirm lubrication before replacing CVVT components.

Use waveform evidence before opening the engine

Missing cam edges favor circuit diagnosis; clean signals with a repeatable crank-to-cam offset favor phaser, reluctor, chain or indexing inspection.
