P0016 means the observed Bank 1 intake-cam relationship did not match the crankshaft position expected by the PCM. It does not identify whether the cam sensor, crank sensor, wiring, oil-controlled phaser, tone wheel or timing chain is responsible. Confirm engine and Bank 1 Sensor A, save desired/actual cam data, check oil level/viscosity and related P0340/P0335 codes, then scope cam/crank correlation. A key-on signal fault needs circuit repair; a repeatable phase offset or rattle needs mechanical timing/phaser inspection. Do not replace both sensors as a pair without evidence.
