The X5 badge spans E53, E70, F15 and G05 generations with naturally aspirated six-cylinder, turbocharged six-cylinder, V8, diesel and plug-in-hybrid engines. Four-digit BMW faults belong to specific DME generations: an E70 N52, E70/F15 N55, V8 and diesel do not share the same VANOS, boost, fuel or cylinder logic. Decode VIN and read engine/DME identification plus complete ISTA fault text before selecting a test.

  • Cylinder 4 location and bank context differ between inline-six and V8 engines.
  • N52, N55, V8 and diesel fuel systems are not interchangeable.
