A skid plate can conceal a flattened pipe, shiny contact point or soot at a stressed joint. Inspect the system cold with the vehicle safely supported.
Do not strike the converter to test it. Internal substrate can be damaged, and an impact sound does not measure flow capacity.
Bank comparison is useful on V6 and V8 trucks
Compare trims, A/F response and downstream behavior between banks under the same load. A bank-specific difference can localize a leak, injector or sensor issue.
