That value is not universal: traditional 12-bolt heads, eight-bolt Vortec heads, manifold material, gasket design, bolt kit, lubricant, and the intake manufacturer's instructions can change the procedure.
Intake leaks can pull oil or unmetered air into the engine and may allow coolant leaks at the end ports. Correct surface preparation, gasket alignment, sealant placement, tightening order, and final torque all matter.

Use the final value supplied with the exact manifold and gasket whenever it differs from a generic engine chart. Tighten gradually from the center outward to distribute gasket load.
How to use this specification correctly

Traditional versus Vortec intake patterns
Traditional Gen I heads normally use six angled bolts per head. Vortec heads use four more-upright bolts per head and require a matching manifold. Bolt count and angle are visible clues, but casting number and manifold application are the final checks.
